Terms of Use

These terms set the conditions for using Groton Residents Directory. By browsing or using the reference, you accept them. If you do not agree, stop using the service.

1. The Reference Service

Groton Residents Directory is privately operated. It explains and links to public rolls, record indexes, and directory collections relating to Groton, Connecticut. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with the Town of Groton, City of Groton, any Connecticut agency, court, library, or records custodian.

2. Acceptable Use

Use the reference only for lawful purposes. You may not use it, or information reached through it, to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make a decision regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the pages at scale
  • Disrupt the service, bypass security, or interfere with its operation

3. No Consumer Reports

Groton Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq. Neither the material here nor a result from a linked search tool is a consumer report, and neither may be used to assess eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another FCRA-covered purpose.

4. Outside Services

Government portals, libraries, courts, and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, set their own terms and privacy rules. Groton Residents Directory does not control their content, availability, pricing, results, or data practices.

5. No Warranties

The reference is supplied “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. No promise is made that a statement is accurate, complete, current, or suitable for a particular purpose, or that an outside portal will work or return a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from use of this reference or a linked resource, including a decision based on a record found through it.

7. Your Responsibility

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the operators harmless from a claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that arises from your misuse of the reference or violation of these terms.

8. Copyright and Linking

The original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Ordinary links and short attributed quotations are welcome. Republishing full pages or copying the site systematically is not permitted.

9. Revisions

These terms may change when a revised version is posted here. Continuing to use the reference after a revision means you accept the new wording.

10. Access Restrictions

Access may be blocked or limited for a user who violates these terms, abuses the service, or threatens its security. That action may occur without advance notice.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by Connecticut law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Connecticut's public-record access framework is the Freedom of Information Act, CGS §§ 1-200 through 1-243. That statute governs requests to public agencies; it does not make this private reference a records custodian.

12. Severability

If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.

13. Questions
